Inclusive. Adaptive. Empowering. Blind Soccer, also known as Football 5-a-side, is an internationally recognized sport designed specifically for athletes with visual impairments or total blindness. Played in the Paralympic Games, this version of soccer is a powerful reminder that the game truly belongs to everyone. At Brazilian Soccer Academy, we’re proud to bring this experience to our community through our Blind and Visually Impaired Soccer Clinic, in collaboration with Kean University — offering safe, structured, and joyful learning for all ages and genders.
How Blind Soccer Works. Blind Soccer is not just a modification — it’s a complete reimagination of the game, centered around sensory engagement, communication, and trust. Here’s how it’s played: The Ball Makes Sound Special balls contain noise-making devices to help players locate it through hearing. The Field Is Adapted The game is played on a smaller, enclosed pitch to create spatial reference points and prevent distractions. Guides and Verbal Cues Coaches and assistants provide real-time audio guidance, while teammates use specific voice commands to communicate. Goalkeepers Can See Goalkeepers are fully sighted and act as anchors for orientation and safety. Silence from Spectators During play, the audience is quiet to allow players to hear the ball and each other clearly.
What Makes It Powerful. Blind Soccer goes far beyond competition. It’s a transformative experience that promotes: • Independence and mobility • Body awareness and spatial intelligence • Trust, communication, and teamwork • Emotional strength and confidence And most importantly: joy.
Who Can Participate? Our clinic is open to: • Children, teens, and adults with low vision or complete blindness • Both female and male players • All experience levels — including beginners curious to try the sport for the first time No prior soccer background is needed. Just curiosity, willingness, and the desire to connect.
Our Commitment. This initiative is part of our mission to expand what sports can be — and who they’re for. Through our partnership with Kean University, we are creating not only a clinic, but a platform for visibility, dignity, and transformation through inclusive sport.
